Two Rice Cakes?

In January 2011, we received an email from Michael and his wife, June Marie, that said that they were following the Rice Diet from home using the book, Rice Diet Solution, written by Rice Diet Program Nutritional Director Kitty Rosati. He said that they wanted to double check the portion size of rice cakes for their menu planning.

For the past eight months, Michael has continued to email their amazing progress on a regular basis. As of this week, Michael has lost 80+ lbs and June Marie 50+. Michael is at his goal weight of 145 lbs and his wife is very close to goal weight.

Michael commented and said, "We are thrilled with the transformation we have experienced in our health, fitness and weight."

We congratulate their perseverance and success.

Way to go, Michael and June Marie!

Laurinburg Dietitian Inspires Others to
Take the Obesity Bull by the Horns

It was incredible to have recently been part of a grassroots 'happening for health,' a community almost magically coming together with hope and a commitment for weight loss and health. In mid-June, Rice Diet Program dietitians Kitty Rosati and Anna LaBarre were amazed by the turnout of an impassioned group eager to sign up for a low-sodium, plant-based diet to lose weight and get healthy.

The evangelical-like atmosphere present in that small hospital in Laurinburg, N.C., was kindled by Jen Kane, a dietitian (employed through Morrison) on staff at Scotland Memorial Hospital, who has fueled this community's hope for weight loss and healing. There is nothing like dramatic results to inspire hope; Jen has lost 50 pounds in five months. When everyone began asking her, "How are you doing it?" she bought and gave away more than 15 copies of the book that had finally motivated her to lose weight. She then realized that to reach as many people as she could, she needed to invite Kitty Rosati, MS, RD, LDN (of the Rice Diet Program in Durham, N.C.) to discuss her NY Times bestselling book, The Rice Diet Solution, and describe the dieta Jen's been following to shed the pounds.

The crowd of nearly 60 was excited to hear the news straight from the horse's mouth -- the Rice Diet is the safest, fastest and most effective way to lose weight and reverse every modifiable risk factor of heart disease while eating whole foods. They were also fascinated to learn that appetite, food cravings and obsessive thoughts about food disappear for the majority of people within 48 hours of eating the diet. After the presentation, Rosati and LaBarre were scrambling to sell books to the massive line. The most exciting thing is that Jen isn't stopping at a presentation and book sale for this crowd of followers... or leaders, rather. She’s organized for the hospital cafeteria to serve a Rice Diet (low-sodium, whole food) meal daily to make this dieta (from the original Greek word meaning "way of life") as convenient as possible. She's also offering cooking classes and heading up a support group that meets and communicates regularly. With this passionate a role model and this support within their grasp, the crowd is highly motivated to say the least!

Perhaps this is just the shot in the arm that America's health crisis needs -- to hear a story of how practitioners and patients in a small town hospital are taking the obesity bull by the horns, proving once again that grassroots efforts are often the most effective. As Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever does!"

Rather than wait for a perfected health care plan to save us, we plan to continue to inspire individuals to discover their power to save themselves with a dieta, or way of life, that really works.

Dieta at Home

"I am happy to report that I have lost a total of 56 pounds. My blood pressure has dropped 50 points, and my blood sugar is in the normal range. I am completely off caffeine, my salt intake is at a minimum, and I have become a Vegan since starting the program.  The program has been terrific and I recently purchased the latest book."
